Juan is a key leader in our Government Advocacy practice area working on a cross-section of issues. He has expertise in waste management, green initiatives and sustainability issues. Juan’s extensive network of relationships with elected officials and staff, regulatory agencies and organized labor organizations gives our clients an unprecedented level of access and input.
Juan was instrumental in industry-leading environmental initiatives as Government Affairs Officer at the Port of Long Beach. He was also extensively involved in the Metropolitan Water District’s legislative outreach efforts and advocated on behalf of Long Beach Water projects with local and regional impact—including seawater desalination research, state and federal water resources, local conjunctive use projects, expansion of recycled water use, industry-leading water conservation outreach and practices and water security.
In the private sector, Juan was Operations Manager for Republic Services, the second largest provider of non-hazardous solid waste collection, transfer, disposal and recycling services in the United States. His operation also promoted their green practices, including successful replacement of diesel trucks with clean energy vehicles. He has successfully lobbied and obtained over $350 million in public funding during his public-sector service and managed headcounts of up to 350 employees.
Juan is currently serving as a Councilmember in the City of Bellflower. He earned a Master of Public Administration, a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and a Certificate in Urban and Regional Studies from California State University, Long Beach.
